GRADE-LE Aiβ’
From the rod to the road. Built for the guy holding the stick.
The Rod Rule
Think of the laser as the ceiling. The rod reads how far the ground is from that ceiling. Bigger number = ground is lower = too deep.

Common Mistakes β Don't Do This
β Reading the rod upside down
β Numbers always read from bottom up. Smallest number is closest to the laser.
β Not plumbing the rod
β Hold the rod perfectly straight up. A tilted rod gives a false reading every time.
β Reading on soft ground
β If the rod base is sinking, your reading is off. Find solid ground or use a rod plate.
β Ignoring the bubble
β The level bubble on the rod must be centered before you call out a reading.
