Park on level ground and let the engine cool for at least 45 minutes.
📍 WHERE: Any flat surface — not on a slope or the oil level will read wrong
💡 WHY: Hot oil is 200°F+ and will cause serious burns. The level also reads inaccurate when hot.

Open the hood and find the oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine oil pan.
📍 WHERE: Underneath the engine, lowest point — a bolt sticking out of a flat metal pan
💡 WHY: This is where all the old oil drains out.

Place your 5-gallon drain pan directly under the drain plug before loosening it.
📍 WHERE: Centered under the drain plug so nothing spills on the ground
💡 WHY: Once that plug comes out, oil flows fast — you want the pan in place first.
